I'd like some GYROSCOPE on the rocks thanks !

Azza from LYG got to fire some Q's at Gyroscope Bassist Brad Campbell,
For those who have been living under a rock and have not heard Gyroscope
i suggest you click HERE and go and listen to some tunes before you read on.

LYG - Gday Brad how are ya and where are you at the moment?

Brad - I'm bloody fantastic mate. Me and the boys have locked ourselves away in our
little studio in Perth for the summer so we can write a new record.

-2008 was a massive year for the band with Breed Obsession
debuting at number 1 on the Aria charts, Can you describe the feeling you yourself felt and
how the band reacted to the news?

I still can't believe a bunch of skinny white guys from the eastern suburbs of Perth
got a number 1 record... crazy!! I remember getting the call up from our manager.
I was at a mates house on a saturday arvo and we were gonna have a quiet night in
but after the news it was all on.. We met up and got stuck into the booze.
You couldn't wipe the smiles off our faces.

-Who are your musical inspirations?

I like a lot of different styles of music, but some of the musicians that inspired me early on are,
Paul Simonen and Joe Strummer from The Clash, Bob Marley, Kurt Cobain, Paul Simon,
Mark Knoffler, INXS, Pink Floyd... the list could go on forever.
Lately I've been getting back into Raised Fist (Swedish hardcore band.. check em out)

-Stupidest thing you have ever done on stage?

We were playing in some small town in rural NSW or something and I got on the microphone
and told everyone that we were chucking an after party at our hotel..
People came, things were broken, and all my bandmates hated me for the next few days..
It was a good party though haha..

-Where is your favorite destination to have travelled with the band and why ?

Definitely South Africa.. We did a 3 week tour there and it was out of control..
I saw wealth beyond comprehension and at the same time poverty like I've never imagined.
It really opened my eyes to the world. It made me realise how lucky we are in Australia..
I remember we played a festival with no rules and it blew my mind. It was BYO booze,
plus it had a 24-hour bar set up (with no security at all). You were allowed to drive
your car around the festival (anywhere). People were lighting fires willy nilly..
They had a waterslide and pool area which was a free for all.. There were market stalls set up
where you could buy machetes!!!!! What the fuck!!!! At least 1 person has died at the festival
ever since it started about 7 years ago!

-If your out having a few drinks with the boys what is your poison of choice?

I always start off on the beers, then I move on to the Jacks and Coke or the Gin and Tonics..

-Can you give us an insight into what a normal day is for you?

At the moment while we are writing it goes like this.. Wake up, put some music on and make some brekky..
Pick up the guitar or bass and work on a song idea.. Perhaps record it on my laptop at home.
Once i'm happy with it, I take it down to our studio and transfer it onto our computer and
maybe do a bit more work on it there... Then it gets filed away until we all get in there
together to write the song together.. Then I come home and make dinner, watch the sunset
and think about how good it is to bein Perth for the summer!!

-What is your Favorite Song of all time and also what is your Favorite Gyroscope song?

My favourite song of all time changes by the minute.. right now its Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits..
Favourite Gyro song is Snakeskin

-Now everyone usually asks the old dinner with whoever
you want question but im going to ask which 5 people would you like to spend a night on the turps with?

Banksy, Dave Grohl, Will Ferrell, George Harrison, Joe Strummer

-After such a big 2008 what does Gyroscope have on the radar for 2009?

Hopefully an even bigger year.. We are going to try and write, record and tour another
album this year so its gonna be a busy one again.. Just the way we like it.

-Any Shoutouts or Thankyous?

Big thanks to Azza and LYG (Perth misses ya bro)
Also a massive thanks to anyone who has purchased any of our music or come along to a show...
Without these people Gyroscope would not exist so thank you..
These people are the reason we get to do what we love.. we never forget that..
Also shout outs to the Wikky Dogs..

-And lastly can you give us a couple of words to describe LYG ?

A bunch of good blokes
